Primary 3 – Art – Spring 1
In spring 1, P3 explored the question: Can Shadows be art?
Students began by exploring shadows they could make with their hands and the shapes other objects around the room made when casting a shadow. Students drew these in their sketch books and annotated them to show what they had found.
Students were then introduced to the work of Moses Williams, Kara Walker and Kumi Yamashita to explore the differences between a shadow and silhouette. Students then had a go at practicing different cutting techniques including a solid cut and a hollow cut.
At the end of the term, the students brought all of their skills together to create a collage bursting with interesting shapes cut from different colours and textures.
