Riversides Literacy Showcase

At Riversides, we were delighted to celebrate National Poetry Day, with this year’s theme of Play. We linked the celebration to Black History Month, exploring the work of the inspirational poet Benjamin Zephaniah through interactive games and creative activities. Pupils from across the school took part in writing their own poems inspired by the idea of play, as well as poems celebrating inspirational people from history and today.

Our Primary pupils had an especially amusing time during their assembly, where they shared their thoughts on Michael Rosen’s much-loved poem Chocolate Cake — sparking plenty of laughter and lively discussion!

To extend learning further, we also made links to careers in writing and the arts, such as journalism, poetry performance, and publishing — helping pupils see how creativity and expression can shape exciting futures.
