World Book day – Riversides’ Literacy Showcase

Wow! What a fabulous day of literary fun we had at Riversides on World Book Day! This year’s national theme was “Creativity”, and our pupils certainly embraced it.

To celebrate, we held a whole-school competition where each class took a photo of themselves reading in the most creative way they could think of. The results were fantastic, with imaginative ideas across the school. A big well done to Year 4, whose brilliant and creative photos were chosen as the winning entry!

Alongside this, many pupils dressed up as a “word” and took part in a sporty literacy Fitness Friday, led by Mr Owen. Pupils combined their oracy and sporting skills to demonstrate and act out their chosen words – it was great fun and a wonderful way to bring language to life through movement.

We also had an extra competition (with chocolate prizes!) where pupils used adjectives to describe Mr Kloda, writing their ideas – and in some cases impressive similes – on his World Book Day T-shirt. Well done to our Year 5 winner, who came up with the most creative description!

Throughout the day, pupils enjoyed a range of whole-school activities as well as plenty of reading fun back in their classrooms.

It was a fantastic example of our whole-school approach to celebrating reading, creativity and the joy of books. Well done to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a success!
