Aim of the activity
Linking Gatsby Benchmarks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Activity
Students from over 3-year groups attended the Skills Show event at Sixways. We visited stands from
a variety of employers and other organisations.
The Worcestershire Skills Show will provide your students with an early understanding of what
businesses are looking for in their future employees and how their education can help them to
develop these skills and qualifications. Support your students to understand their future options in a
fun and interactive way, with have a go activity at every employer stand to demonstrate roles within
those businesses.
Impact of activity
The students who were able to engage, collected valuable resources and obtained written
information (LMI) from exhibitors. Some students were overwhelmed by the number of stands
and people visiting and so we focused on trying to gradual integrate them so that they could
enter the room and become acclimatised to those numbers of people. A range of students
showed a good interest in the NHS on the apprenticeships they have to offer within different
roles, administration, health care assistant, phlebotomist, alongside that Engineering and
Construction gained a vast interest.
One student especially enjoyed the whole experience, he showed great communication skills with
the vendors and enjoyed the games and tasks that were on offer. The range of vendors was
tremendous lots of opportunities for the students to have their own aspirations raised. They all
expressed their interests in post 16 options and are looking forward to many more career visits
to help them with their choices.
