Activity

Jessica from Nova training came in to speak to year 11 class about the next steps they can offer with post 16 options. Jessica explained to the students what services Nova training provides to students and learners. Jessica explained that every learner is different, their learning experience is based on their own interests and from this they create a personalized plan.

Jessica spoke about English and Math’s GCSE or functional skills of these are achieved at school they can still achieve them through Nova, alongside that achieving employability skills giving them the skills to work within a workplace environment using the techniques to keep them in employment. Work experience is important for learners that aren’t confident in new situations, this gives them the experience they need to reach employment with support from the team. Work experience is based solely around the young person’s interests, with Nova supporting them in finding places which often end with then receiving a paid apprenticeship to finish their qualifications.

Overview of Actvity

Jessica spoke to the students about the company about what they offer to support and their learners. Through a socially inclusive approach, they provide high-quality learning and training support to equip individuals with the skills for future employment, further development and/or Further Education.

Nova’s mission is to increase skills through the attainment of vocational and fundamental English and Math’s qualifications whilst improving learners’ employability skills and like chances. They aim to increase employment levels, decrease NEET and meet the skills demands of the individual learners. Nova Training could be a steppingstone to a career path through gaining GCSE/Functional skills with work experience this could move a student along to university to a preferred skill.

Jess shared some success stories with the students about young people who had gained full-time employment through apprenticeships with companies such as Community Housing.

Jessica also spoke of the incentives available to students such as lunch bursary, funding for transport, referral bonuses and payments for meeting attendance requirements and passing exams.
