Year 10 – Art – Spring 1
In Spring 1, year 10 were asked the question: Can art tell a story?
Students began by looking at famous painting and having a go at telling a story based around the picture.
Students then spent some time exploring work by Jacob Lawrence, an American painter known for his portrayal of African American historical subjects and contemporary life. Students had a go at taking a photograph and painting it in Lawrence’s style – ‘dynamic cubism’.
Students were then set the challenge of working collaboratively to depict the story of Jack and the Beanstalk through the style of Lawrence. Students needed to communicate to decide on colours and appearances for their individual frames.
Year 10 finished the term with a visit to the park to see what stories they could spot around them and to capture these in a sketch.
