Aim of the activity
Raising Aspirations Through Early Careers Exploration
As part of our commitment to raising aspirations and supporting early career awareness, our Year 7 students recently visited Kidderminster College to explore a range of post‑16 course options.
The visit focused on the Green Technology Centre, giving pupils a valuable insight into m The aim of the visit was to introduce students to vocational learning pathways, help them understand future education options beyond secondary school and build confidence through hands‑on, practical experiences for mechanics and sustainable technologies.
Activity
During the main campus visit the students were introduced to a range courses that the college offered from Art and Design, Music, Hair and Beauty, Travel and Tourism and animal care all course the students got to see learners in the classroom environment completing their studies. Naomi explained how college is more about promoting independence and having time for breaks and rest, lots of common rooms to chill and revise also permission to leave college and break and lunch times. The students were amazed that most courses weren’t everyday mostly 3-4 days and often part time hours. During their time at the Green Technology Centre, students toured specialist workshops and took part in supervised practical tasks within the motor mechanics department. Activities included identifying vehicle components, learning about electric and hybrid vehicles, and safely using tools. Students also spoke with college staff about courses, college life and careers within the motor and green technology industries.
Impact of Activity
The visit had a positive impact on student confidence, engagement and aspiration. Pupils gained a better understanding of how their learning links to future careers and were enthusiastic about the opportunities available to them after Year 11
