Activity

Year 10 & 11 students attended an Inclusion Careers event at Sixways. We visited stands from a variety of employers, colleges and other organisations. Students were particularly interested in Kidderminster and How Worcester colleges. They showed a good interest in young adult learning and Mencap who offer support and traineeships/apprenticeships for students at risk of NEET. Students gathered information from the stands and spoke to vendors about what their careers aspirations are and what they plan to do after school.

Impact of activity

The students who were able to engage, collected valuable resources and obtained written information from vendors. Some students were overwhelmed by the number of stands and people visiting and so we focused on trying to gradual integrate them so that they could enter the room and become acclimatised to those numbers of people. A range of students showed a good interest in the Ringway on their apprenticeships they have to offer within different roles, highway operatives, grands maintenance operative.

One student took a great interest in speaking to all the vendors and joining in with games and experiments they had on offer. The most interesting one was the Cyber skills the students had to use their own skills of problem solving to crack the code.

Quotes from the students.

‘I want to go and visit Heart of Worcester College to see their Sports and Services course’

‘I spoke to a lady from Mencap, she gave me lots if information regarding supported internships’ ‘I want a role in Cyber Skills, it was amazing’
