Visit from Anthony Gillgrass (Sport and the World)

Overview of activity

As part of year 9’s topic on adventure and travel careers, Anthony Gillgrass, a sports teacher and ex cricket professional, came to talk to the students about travel and sports.

Anthony shared with student’s highlights from countries he has traveled to including the USA, Australia, India, Spain, Africa and Singapore.

He also talked about the poverty within India and their daily wage, the college sports systems in America and safari in South Africa. Students also learnt about the equipment used to play sports in some countries who do not have the wealth we do – such as playing rugby barefoot on concrete.

Anthony also shared his career path to getting the job that he loves.

Student Impact

Students realised that sport doesn’t just have to be played in the local park and that they can have careers combining sport with travel.
