Year 8 – Art – Spring 2

In Spring 2, year 8 used photography to explore the question: What do toys do when we aren’t there?

They started by looking at the history of cameras and using cyanotype paper and sunlight to experiment with the ‘rule of thirds’.

The students were then introduced to Mitchel Wu, a photographer for the likes of Marvel and Disney. The students explored and evaluated his work before using observational sketching to record the details of a variety of toys.

Next, students focused on macro photography and looked at the work of David Gilliver, before having a go at designing their own composition of ‘Skylander’ figurines and thinking about what they needed to enhance their photographs. The students then had a lesson dedicated to setting up and shooting their designs, with time to explore and adapt their photographs.
