Riversides School Celebrates an Action-Packed Sports Week
On the first morning, the pupils clambered on to the mini-bus loaded with water, sunhats, suncream and anticipation of the events ahead – athletics. Students participated in long run, high jump, shot put, javelin and some even braved the heat to try some track running. Tiredness from the morning’s activities didn’t put the pupils off, with some doubling up on the day’s events and others joining them – experiencing footgolf, where pupils had to curb their enthusiasm and power, to focus on precision to score kicks. Ravenmeadow Golf Club kindly offered mini golf as an option on arrival, so some pupils practiced their putting around the crazy ‘jungle’.
Tuesday morning the pupils had the opportunity to participate in tag rugby, led by the Worcester Warriors foundation – they played some mini skill games and had some target practice before a game of tag rugby – this was thoroughly enjoyed by all pupils, some of whom delighted in being cooled off by sprinklers on the walk back to school.
Wednesday saw pupils enjoy football at the astro turf at Brickfields where their sportsmanship was shining brighter than the sun – pupils encouraged each other, gave praise and celebrated their team win or lose. The afternoon saw a break from the sunshine with the opportunity of tennis at Malvern Tennis Academy.
Inflatable fun took over Lowerwick Swimming pool on Thursday, giving the pupils an opportunity to cool down and take on the challenge of staying on the inflatable pirate ship all the way to the slide at the end – although many fell off before – it’s a good job it wasn’t shark infested waters!
Sports week was over but there was little time to dwell with an alien takeover on the playground on Friday, shapeshifting as the Summer Fayre. Pupils were an ‘out of this world’ sight parading around the local area dressed as spacemen and aliens. Pupils and parents then enjoyed a variety of games on the playground including ‘splat the rat’, ‘aliens vs the world’ and aliens took over the legendary human fruit machine.
After such a hot and busy July, pupils and staff alike will be glad of the rest over the summer holidays.
