Literacy Showcase – World Cup Theme

This week, our pupils embraced the excitement of the 2026 World Cup by taking part in a range of engaging literacy activities across the school.

Using football as their inspiration, pupils produced fantastic pieces of extended writing, took part in thoughtful debates about footballers’ salaries and how money should be spent on major sporting events, and explored a variety of creative reading activities. Classes also visited our local library to discover football-themed books and enjoy reading for pleasure.

One of the highlights of the week was our whole-school Creative Reading Competition, where pupils were challenged to photograph themselves reading in the most imaginative football-themed setting. The standard of entries was incredibly high, showcasing the creativity and enthusiasm of all our pupils. A huge congratulations to Year 4, whose fantastic photo was crowned the overall winner!

It has been wonderful to see so much enthusiasm for reading, writing and discussion, proving that literacy and sport really do make a winning team!
