German Christmas Market – Reward Trip

On Thursday 19th December, year 10 had their end of term reward trip to Birmingham German Christmas Market. A well deserved trip after the recent hard work and effort put into their mock exams. We travelled to Birmingham on the train, which was a new experience for some of our students. They learnt a vital life skill of how to use public transport, reading the train times, seeing which platform we needed to be at and safely getting on and off the train. They also very kindly gave up a seat for an elderly lady, again learning how to appropriately act in public and expectations of etiquette in society.

We then went ice skating which was a huge hit with our students and lots of fun was had by all! They demonstrated great resilience getting up and carrying on after falling over several times on the ice. It was really lovely to see the group caring and helping each other get up on the ice, showing such kindness to each other. Again, this was a new experience for some of our students and another opportunity to learn a new skill. Lots of laughter from all students and they represented the school impeccably.

To finish off our adventure, we experienced different cultures walking around the traditional German Christmas Market. We looked at traditional German festive food and sampled some churros, which all of the boys liked. We also had the pleasure of listening to some live music, whilst looking at the architecture around us and the statues. Bringing history and geography into our conversations with the students. The boys showed great confidence when ordering their lunch and counting their money to pay with cash, teaching them the cost of every day things and how to responsibly budget for the day.

We would like to thank our students for representing Riversides School so respectfully out in public and making us so very proud of them. We would also like to thank our students parents for their kind contributions towards the trip. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
