Year 11 Student Gains Hands-On Experience at Newlands Chicken Farm

A student in Year 11 is completing work experience at Newlands Chicken Farm, where he is gaining valuable insight into farming and food production. During my time there, I learned about animal welfare, biosecurity procedures, and the daily routines involved in caring for chickens. I assisted with feeding, cleaning, and monitoring the birds, while following health and safety rules. Staff were supportive and happy to explain how the farm operates efficiently and responsibly. This experience improved my teamwork, responsibility, and confidence, and helped me understand career opportunities within agriculture. Overall, my placement at Newlands Chicken Farm was educational, practical, and enjoyable for my future studies.
